I Count Maroon as a Neutral

Image

Today I wore ALL of the neutrals.  It tends to be a fall thing I do.  I decide that the best way to make sure I match is to wear all of the neutrals in my closet.  I’m not saying it always works, but it happens.  But that being said, this is probably my favorite outfit I have put on the blog.  I am obsessed with blazers.  And I am really happy about the boots I bought last week that were normally $65, but were on sale for $20.  And I don’t pay more than $20 for just about anything, so I would not have bought them otherwise.  These tights have become one of my favorite pairs, but before this year I think I wore them once.  I was scared of the pattern.  Lately, I have been pulling things out of my closet that I never wear and challenging myself to find an outfit for them.  And it’s been working so I think it’s a challenge I am going to keep for myself.

Another challenge I am making for myself is keeping up on my blog posts.  I am now caught up.  Today was another day I had coffee  with Katie and Elana.  It’s started to become our Friday thing and I love it.  These girls are so lovely and I’m hoping that soon I can officially declare a fashion merchandising minor and halfway know what they are talking about!

Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na BATMAN!

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting two of the bloggers at my school, Katie, and Elana.  I had such a wonderful time meeting these girls and having someone to talk to about blogging.  Also, since I tend to be extremely challenged with technology, I got a lot of useful information about how their blogs look the way they do.  As they are both fashion merchandising majors at the school I go to, I had a lot of questions and I found out I can minor in FM.  I am really looking into that possibility and I’m really hoping I can fit it in in the next year and a half or so.

But back to my outfit.  I love this outfit.  It’s funky.  I’m not really sure what possessed me to wear it, but I’m okay with it.  I don’t own a lot of t-shirts and I didn’t buy this one but my sister gave it to me and I love it!  The fabric is really soft and broken in and I wear it all the time now.  This skirt is also one of the best things I have bought recently.  It goes with so much and is so simple that I can really jazz it up with anything or most any color.  Or in the case of this outfit, every color.

Anyone who knows me, knows about my obsession with bows.  Sometimes, I wear a bunch of different bows at once.  Like this day.  My favorite bow earrings with the necklace that started the obsession.

I meant to tuck my shirt in a little better, but hey.  That is the beauty of taking outfit pictures where there is no mirror close by you.

Pretty Leaves

image

I am obsessed with these leaves much more than I am my outfit, or anything in my closet for that matter. I took pictures simply because I realized how pretty it was next door. But I guess I like my outfit too. And I guess that’s what you came here to see, so…

This is one of my favorite dresses. I wore it in my first post. And while it is not particularly autumnal, I was set on wearing it anyway. Also, the lighting makes it hard to tell but I am wearing gray tights, not black.  I love my brown oxfords, but they match very little in my closet, so I take anytime I can to wear them.

Hope you’re enjoying this lovely autumn weather while it lasts!!!

Out and About

My friend Sarah and I had an afternoon with no rehearsals, no homework, no shows, no anything. It was glorious. We thrifted and got food, walked in the park, looked at apartments for next year (!!!). Overall it was the kind of day we hadn’t had in…almost two months. We were much overdue for a day of dressing up for no reason, followed by a great performance that night (Talking With ladies, that’s you!).

Saturday was one of the last really mild days I think we’ll have, so it’s time to pack up all those summer clothes and move to my favorite season!!

Hearts Are Wild

image

I’ve been back at school for a couple weeks now, trying to get myself in a good routine again. And there are so few days that I can dress nicely because if my movement classes that its hard to even wear an outfit to blog about.

But yesterday my roommate asked us if we had anything we wanted tailored and I ran to my closet to pull this dress out. I bought it at the retro clothing store in my hometown but its been months since I’ve had it and I never got it hemmed. I’m currently in rehearsal for a show set in the fifties so we are supposed to wear skirts for rehearsal. So I felt it was absolutely necessary to wear it right away!

I love the fun hearts pattern!

Back to School!

image

A couple days ago I was visiting my grandparents before I left for college. My grandma had an unnatural attachment to her camera and to taking pictures of us when she thinks we look nice. That is finally starting to come in handy. I ended up having a fun little photo shoot with my grandma where I taught her how to use the camera on my phone. (That is still a work in progress.)

But about the outfit. I had been looking at this crop top at Vanity for some time, waiting for it to be discounted. When I finally did buy it (on tax free Iowa weekend when I went crazy shopping) it was only $2!!! I could hardly believe my luck. The skirt was also on sale at Charlotte Russe. I paid $12, which if more than I usually spend on much of any piece if clothing. But I’ve been wanting more maxi skirts and I love the color and the lace.

It’s almost impossible to see my necklace in the full photo, but it’s one if my favorites. Mother-of-pearl with a cute flower design and a nice decorative chain.  My earrings came out of the $5 dollar bin at Vintage Rose (best discount bin ever!).

Now that I’m back at school, I don’t get to wear my dresses much because I’m always in dance clothes. But I will be trying to get in a better groove of posting outfits than I have been. 🙂

My first post!!!

Image

Hey everyone!

I’m not sure if everyone who starts a blog feels this way, but I have stalled and stalled and stalled my first post because I wondered about if I really wanted to do this.  First of all, I rarely take pictures of myself.  And then I wondered about my qualifications for doing a fashion and jewelry blog.  I’m not a fashion merchandising or a costuming major.  But fashion is a huge influence on my life.  I spend hours every week poring over fashion blogs, getting ideas.  Looking for color combinations I never would have thought of, or two patterns that look fantastic together.

So by making this blog, I am hoping that every once in awhile I can have those outfits that make other girls go, “Yeah, I wouldn’t have thought of that.  But I’m going to use it now.”  And I’m also overcoming the second thoughts I have about showing myself to everyone.

I am a plus size girl and I do my best (as every girl does) to love my body exactly how it is.  For me, it’s about dressing for your shape and when you know your body really well, you know how to show off your assets.  Fashion isn’t superficial, it’s a necessity of life, so you might as well use it.

That being said, let’s talk about this outfit.

This is one of my favorite color combinations.  Red and teal/mint (the color of this dress is still up for debate). I have loved this color combo since middle school (a time where I wore nothing but t-shirts and jeans).  So clearly, this goes way back for me.  The dress is from Target, as so many of my clothes are, and is one of my favorite finds there.

I love polka dots.  They’re taking over my wardrobe.  I’m okay with it.

The shoes are another favorite with me.  $3 at the local Salvation Army.  I mean really, could I get luckier than that?!  I was severely lacking in red shoes until I found these at the beginning of the summer.

The belt and the jewelry are from antique stores in my area, Fred and Ethel’s (http://fredandethels.com/) and Vintage Rose (http://www.etsy.com/shop/EffieRoseAntiques?ref=si_shop).  Fred and Ethel’s is primarily 50’s and 60’s items with a huge vintage clothes section in the back of the store.  I have to limit myself to keep myself from going in there and buying too many clothes.  Last week I had three dresses on hold and I had to choose between them.  First world problems, I tell ya.  Vintage Rose is the antique jewelry store I work at and it is a good day if I walk out of there WITHOUT a new piece of jewelry.  My white cloisonne bracelet is a favorite of mine.  I have these bracelets in about 10 different colors and they go with everything.  They’re my go-to jewelry item if I just need SOMETHING.  My sunglasses are new, I got them on a trip to LeClaire, IA with my mom.  I love the retro look of them!
